On-the-job boys face painting!

I’m definitely more comfortable with pretty, frilly, flowery girly designs so always feel a little fear when a boy sits down requesting typical boys face paint ideas. Always looking to improve my superheroes, I’m still trying to develop my designs to ones I’m content and comfortable with. Copying characters however, is something I’m ok at so enjoyed doing this Pokemon/ Pikachu design recently, at a sweaty party on the hottest day of the year so far! This is a simplified version of Olga Murasev’s original design.

My on-the-job tigers are always a challenge, as I’ve been so focused on immaculate line work that I sometimes forget about flow. When in doubt, always look to Mark Reid for tiger inspiration! Painted this absolutely adorable little tiger at the same party and he and I were both super happy with the result!

I’m also always a little terrified when boys request a character I’ve never heard of and then produce their tiny little arm for me to replicate it on! So I was pretty pleased by my efforts today with “Ultra Sonic” on this kids arm. He bloody loved it!   Wish I’d got a closer picture  although this photo of the two brothers taken by their mum is just awesome!

Teaching my very first face painting workshop!!

Last month I taught my first ever workshop. I was invited to be 1 of 2 tutors at Face Paint BOOTCAMP – an incredible, intensive one day training session in Belfast, Northern Ireland, organised by Stacey Kilpatrick of S.A.K. Designs. 30 participants were divided into 2 groups for two back-to-back 3 hour workshops (with a lovely leisurely lunch in between!) It was an absolute honour and privilege to be ‘billed’ alongside the phenomenal Teresa Mullin.

Leading up to the workshop I was so so nervous! I’d never taught before and always dismissed it as something beyond my capabilities. Every time I thought about it I felt sick with nerves, terrified I’d be no good! BUT somehow I managed to ignore those voices of crippling self-doubt and I DID IT and I loved it!! The feedback given afterwards was amazing and unbelievably heart-warming (see below photos), proving that my nerves were totally unfounded. I couldn’t have hoped for a more wonderful, positive first experience of teaching 😀

ONE STROKE for ONE MONTH – Days 1-6

Next month I am teaching my very first workshop – in Northern Ireland! In preparation I am creating different one stroke designs every day – practising my technique and rediscovering the endless possibilities one can create with one strokes! I simply adore this method of painting, with its mouthwatering array of colour combinations, and the effortless blending effect achieved with one stroke of the brush ❤ Here’s to the next 24/25 days!!

❤ Rainbow arm art ❤

Rainbows are quite possibly my favourite thing to paint! I love to improvise and create unique different designs on the spot. Here are two fairly recent creations.

The left was a girl at a Pride event.
The right was a little boy who wanted me to paint his dreams being eaten by nightmares!!

Minion Head!

Today at a 3 year old’s birthday party I got to paint a bald head for the first time, something I’ve always wanted to do!! It’s not my best work, as it was a little rushed, but definitely one of the funniest! It was amazing fun and provided much amusement to fellow party guests :p
If you’re bald, or know someone else who is, and would like your head painted, please get in touch!!
