Recently, whilst on a yoga retreat just outside Toulouse I discovered the art of drawing mandalas and immediately fell in love. Often struggling to stay present I discovered that this practise helps me shut out both inside and outside noise. It seems to create order amidst chaos and transforms frustration into relaxation. Each seemingly random shape and loop I draw comes together into an ordered, kaleidoscopic symmetry. Of all the things I’ve tried to quiet my mind this is definitely my new favourite.
The mandalas started as black and white doodles in my notebook with a biro and plain paper. It wasn’t until the end of my retreat that it occurred to me I could paint multi-coloured versions on 12″ vinyl records! So here is the very first one ❤
Throughout the process of painting the mandala I photographed every single step, with the intention of making my very first time lapse/ slide show of my work in progress. I’m currently in the photo-editing phase, but the mandala video should be ready very soon! Here are a few of the photos I took showing the process.
The mandala was hand-drawn and hand-painted on a 12″ vinyl record, completely from scratch. No rulers or other measuring devices, so I’m hoping the slight asymmetry is charming!
All the colours – teal, fuchsia and red – as well as the white embellishments and a black outline were all completed with my favourite ever, now discontinued (!) brush – Loew cornell Flora 0.
This piece of vinyl record art is indeed for sale! And giclee prints are coming very soon. I’m currently finishing off my second mandala vinyl (pics very soon!!) and excited to start my third.
These mandala vinyl records are the perfect adornments for home bedrooms, yoga studios, yoga retreats, bohemian cafes and so much more! If you’d like to buy some mandala vinyl record art please get in touch! Or if you’d like to stock my mandala vinyl record art in your quirky, bohemian shop, please let me know!
With love,
